Dark Circles ≠ Filler
Most patients who come in asking for under-eye filler actually have dark circles from non-volume-related
causes. Before recommending filler, Dr. Ankita assesses the actual cause:
- Volume loss (hollow tear troughs): Creates a shadow that looks like a dark circle. This
IS a good candidate for filler
- Pigmentation: Melanin deposition under the eyes — needs depigmenting creams and peels,
not filler
- Vascularity: Blood vessels visible through thin under-eye skin (bluish-purple tint) —
needs vascular-specific treatment
- Skin laxity: Loose, crepey under-eye skin — needs RF tightening or PRP, not filler
- Allergies/lifestyle: Chronic allergies, sleep deprivation, screen time — needs root
cause management
When Under-Eye Filler Works Well
- Clear hollowness/depression in the tear trough area
- Shadow effect when light hits the face (not actual skin darkening)
- Good skin quality with minimal under-eye wrinkles
- Age 25–50 typically (though we assess individually)
The Procedure
- Filler used: Lightweight, soft hyaluronic acid filler specifically designed for the
delicate under-eye area
- Technique: Cannula-based injection (safer than needle for this sensitive area — reduces
bruising and risk)
- Volume: 0.5–1 ml per side (conservative approach — we can always add more)
- Duration: 20–30 minutes including numbing
- Downtime: Mild swelling for 2–3 days, possible bruising for 5–7 days
- Results last: 8–12 months
Why This Is a High-Skill Procedure
The under-eye area is the most unforgiving zone for filler injection. Common problems from inexperienced
injectors:
- Tyndall effect: Bluish discoloration from filler placed too superficially
- Puffiness: Over-filling creates bags rather than correcting hollows
- Lumps: Visible irregularities from uneven product distribution
At Gomti Clinic, Dr. Ankita uses cannula technique with conservative volumes — it's better to under-correct
and add more at a follow-up than to over-correct.
