Evidence-Based Practice

Dermatology is a rapidly evolving field. Laser technology improves, new injectable techniques emerge, melasma management protocols get refined, and hair loss research publishes new findings regularly. Dr. Ankita Kumari's training at IMS BHU emphasized evidence-based decision-making — and that approach continues at Gomti Clinic.

Clinical Observations from Lucknow Practice

Hard Water and Skin/Hair Health

Many patients from Aliganj, Indira Nagar, and Mahanagar present with dry, itchy skin and hair that's brittle or prone to breakage. A common thread is Lucknow's hard water (high calcium/magnesium content). Research supports the link between hard water and increased eczema severity, hair shaft damage, and scalp irritation. We routinely ask patients about their water source and recommend shower filters where appropriate.

Monsoon Fungal Infection Patterns

Between July and September, fungal infection consultations at Gomti Clinic increase by an estimated 3–4x. Lucknow's humidity during monsoon creates ideal conditions for dermatophyte growth. We see a specific pattern: patients who've self-treated with steroid-antifungal combination creams (available over the counter) present with modified, resistant infections that are harder to treat. This is a documented national concern in Indian dermatology (IADVL has published guidance on this).

Melasma and UV Exposure Patterns

Lucknow patients are exposed to significant UV radiation — especially those commuting in open auto-rickshaws, cycling, or living in areas with less tree cover. We observe that melasma severity correlates strongly with daily UV exposure and sunscreen compliance. Patients who commit to daily SPF 50 with reapplication show measurably better treatment outcomes than those who use sunscreen sporadically.

Hair Loss Demographics

Hair loss is among our top 3 consultation reasons. We observe a younger demographic seeking treatment compared to national averages — men in their early 20s and women in their mid-20s. Contributing factors frequently include vitamin D deficiency (indoor lifestyles), iron deficiency (dietary patterns), stress, and hard water exposure.
