What Is PRP Therapy?
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a non-surgical hair restoration treatment that uses your own blood. Here's the
process at Gomti Clinic:
- Blood draw: About 10–15 ml of blood is drawn from your arm (like a routine blood test)
- Centrifuge: The blood is placed in a certified centrifuge and spun at high speed to
separate plasma rich in platelets from red blood cells
- Injection: The concentrated platelet-rich plasma is injected into the scalp at areas of
thinning using fine needles
The platelets release growth factors (PDGF, VEGF, TGF-beta) that stimulate dormant hair follicles, improve
blood supply to the follicle, and promote the growth phase of the hair cycle.
Who Is PRP Good For?
- Early to moderate androgenetic alopecia (Norwood 2–4 in men, Ludwig 1–2 in women)
- Patients who want non-surgical options before considering transplant
- As a complement to medical management (minoxidil + finasteride) for better results
- Post-transplant patients to improve graft survival and density
Who Should NOT Get PRP
We're upfront about limitations. PRP is not suitable for:
- Complete baldness (Norwood 6–7) — there are no dormant follicles left to stimulate
- Patients on blood thinners or with platelet disorders
- Active scalp infections
- Unrealistic expectations — PRP improves density and slows loss, it doesn't regrow a full head of hair
The PRP Experience at Gomti Clinic
Duration: 45–60 minutes per session (including numbing cream application time)
Pain level: Mild discomfort. Numbing cream is applied 20 minutes before injection. Most
patients from Aliganj, Gomti Nagar, and Hazratganj describe it as "bearable."
Downtime: None. You can return to work the same day. Avoid washing hair for 24 hours.
Schedule: 4 sessions, one month apart. Then maintenance sessions every 4–6 months.
Results timeline: Hair fall reduction noticeable by session 2–3. Visible density improvement
by month 4–5. Results vary by individual and grade of hair loss.
PRP Results — What's Realistic
We show every patient the documented improvement ranges before starting:
- 70–80% of suitable candidates see noticeable improvement in hair density
- Hair fall reduction is typically the first visible change (within 4–6 weeks)
- Results are not permanent — maintenance sessions are needed to sustain improvement
- If no improvement is seen after 4 sessions, we reassess rather than pushing more sessions
Why PRP Quality Varies Between Clinics
Not all PRP is the same. The quality depends on:
- Centrifuge quality: A proper medical-grade centrifuge vs. a cheap alternative affects
platelet concentration
- Kit quality: Certified PRP kits maintain sterility and optimal separation
- Injection technique: Depth, angle, and distribution pattern matter — this requires
training
- Who's performing it: At Gomti Clinic, Dr. Ankita (MD Dermatology, IMS BHU) performs
every PRP session personally
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does PRP cost in Lucknow?
INR 4,000–6,000 per session at Gomti Clinic. Full details on our PRP
cost page →
Can I combine PRP with medication?
Yes — in fact, the best results come from combining PRP with appropriate medication (minoxidil/finasteride).
We create a combined protocol based on your trichoscopy findings.
Is PRP better than GFC?
GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate) uses specialized kits for higher concentration. It's a newer technique with
promising early data but less long-term research than PRP. We discuss both options during consultation.
