Men's Laser Hair Removal — The No-Nonsense Guide
It's not just a women's treatment anymore. 35% of our laser patients are men. Here's what's different about treating male hair.
Consult Dr. AnkitaWhy Men Are Getting Laser (And Why More Should)
Five years ago, a man walking into Gomti Clinic asking about laser hair removal would get curious glances. Today, 35% of our laser clients are male — and that number has been climbing every quarter. The stigma is evaporating faster than morning fog over the Gomti river, and — frankly — good riddance.
Most men don't want to be hairless. They want to be manageable. The guy from Indira Nagar who spends 30 minutes shaving his neck twice a week? He wants clean lines without the commitment. The IT professional from Gomti Nagar whose back hair makes him self-conscious at the gym? He wants reduction, not removal. That's a perfectly valid use of laser.
Common Treatment Areas for Men
| Area | Goal | Sessions | Cost/Session |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beard neckline | Clean lines, reduce ingrowns | 4-6 | ₹2,000 |
| Full back | Significant reduction | 8-10 | ₹5,000–₹7,000 |
| Chest | Thinning or full removal | 6-8 | ₹4,000–₹5,000 |
| Shoulders | Reduction | 6-8 | ₹3,000 |
| Unibrow area | Clean separation | 3-4 | ₹1,000 |
How Men's Hair Differs From Women's
Male body hair is testosterone-driven, which means it's typically thicker, denser, and more deeply rooted than female body hair. This has practical implications for laser treatment:
- Higher energy settings required — thicker hair needs more energy to heat the follicle to destruction temperature. More energy = slightly more discomfort per pulse.
- More sessions for hormonal areas — chest, back, and beard are highly androgen-dependent. Testosterone continuously stimulates new follicle activation. This is why men's back laser needs 8-10 sessions vs 6-8 for women's legs.
- Ingrown hairs respond brilliantly — pseudofolliculitis barbae (razor bumps on the neck) is extremely common in men. Laser is literally the best treatment available — it eliminates the hair that causes the ingrown, permanently solving the problem.
The "Thinning" Approach — Not All-or-Nothing
Most male patients want reduction, not elimination. Here's the beautiful thing: we can calibrate. Stop after 3-4 sessions and you get 40-50% thinning — hair is noticeably less dense but still present. A natural look. Continue to 6-8 sessions and you get 80-90% reduction — near-smooth skin with sparse, fine hair.
You control the endpoint. We're not aiming for dolphin-smooth unless you want dolphin-smooth.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will people notice I got laser?
It's gradual. Over 6 sessions spanning 6 months, hair thins progressively. Nobody wakes up one morning suddenly hairless. The transition is subtle — people notice you look "cleaner" but can't pinpoint why.
Is laser on the beard area safe?
Yes — for neckline and cheek lines, laser is excellent. For a full beard, we don't recommend it unless you're sure you never want facial hair again. The beard is an identity marker for many men — think carefully before making it permanent.
Do sportsmen get this done?
Increasingly, yes. Swimmers, cyclists, and bodybuilders were early adopters. Now we see cricketers, gym enthusiasts, and even corporate professionals. There's no "type" anymore.
