Not Everyone Needs a Hair Transplant
Let's start with what most Lucknow clinics won't tell you: if your hair loss is in early stages (Norwood
2–3), you probably don't need a transplant. Medical management with proper
medication and PRP therapy can stabilize and improve your
hair without surgery.
Dr. Ankita evaluates every patient with trichoscopy and blood work first. If non-surgical options haven't
been tried or the hair loss isn't stable, we recommend those first — not the transplant.
When a Transplant Makes Sense
- Hair loss is stable (not actively worsening) for 6+ months
- You've tried medical management and it's plateaued
- You have adequate donor area (back and sides of the head)
- You have realistic expectations about density and coverage
- You're willing to continue maintenance medication post-transplant (transplanted hair survives, but
surrounding native hair still needs protection)

The Transplant Process
- Consultation (Day 1): Trichoscopy, grade assessment, donor area evaluation, blood work
- Planning: Hairline design, graft count estimation, discussion of realistic outcomes
- Procedure day: Local anaesthesia, extraction, implantation. Duration: 5–8 hours
depending on graft count
- Recovery: Crusting for 7–10 days, initial shedding at 3–4 weeks (normal — the
transplanted follicles are resetting)
- Growth: New hair starts growing at 3–4 months. Full result visible at 10–12 months
Honest Expectations
- Transplanted hair is permanent — but surrounding hair may continue to thin without medication
- One session typically covers one area well. Large balding areas may need 2 sessions
- The result depends heavily on donor quality. Thin, fine donor hair produces thinner results
- Hairline design should look natural at any age — not a ruler-straight teenage hairline on a 40-year-old
